During the First World War the music hall is the habitat of several young writers and painters. They immerse themselves in the colourful mondern city’s nightlife. In 1916, Antwerp modernist poet Paul van Ostaijen – the undisputed leader of this generation of innovators in Flanders – entitles his first book of poetry Music-Hall. Not long after his friend Paul Joostens portrays this couple in the setting of a music hall.
