Edmond Van Dooren // City

Edmond Van Dooren was part of the Kring Moderne Kunst (Circle for Modern Art) of Antwerp avant-garde figurehead Jozef Peeters. Shortly after the First World War he conducted radical experiments influenced by the Italian Futurist movement. In his later, more phantastic works, this experimental period would still be of influence.

In this work on paper, using a highly idiosyncratic visual language, Van Dooren constructs an amorphous city which looks both medieval and ultramodern.
